“True belonging never asks us to change who we are. True belonging requires us to be who we are.” - Brene Brown
Feeling a true sense of belonging in the world is a new feeling for me. I used to try and hide parts of myself. The parts that were different. The parts that were too quiet. Too nervous. Too anxious. The parts that made me stand out. Because, I wanted to belong.
I thought belonging was having things in common with people. Trying to find how we all were similar. But it turns out that’s fitting in. Belonging is actually asking the opposite - to find out how we are different. Belonging asks us to be ourselves. You can’t truly belong to anything or any group if you don’t belong to yourself first.
In this workshop I will share personal stories about my self-discovery journey and we will do a deep dive into who we are. We will reflect on questions and themes such as:
What were you like as a child?
What unique qualities make you who you are?
What comes easy? What is hard?
Why your perceived ‘weakness’ is often your greatest strength.
How to find what lights you up inside.
The importance of following your curiosity and having an experimental mindset.
And then, we will create something to help us remember who we are.
Feeling like I can be me and be proud of it, and share it with the world - that is a feeling that has changed everything for me. I believe that our greatest purpose in this life is to be ourselves. To show up in this world as ourselves. To love ourselves.
And to love yourself and be confident in who you are, you have to know who you are.
So, let’s find out who we are.
It’s time to celebrate who we are.
