Vulnerability.
Vulnerability.
Lately, I can’t help but think it’s the missing link. The connector. From who you are to all you want to be.
Vulnerability is that feeling you get when someone asks how you are doing and you answer - honestly.
That feeling you get right before you hit send on a post you’ve been working on. Or tell someone about a new idea you have. Or invite someone to your workshop.
That feeling right before you ask someone for help. Or say what you really need.
To be vulnerable is to risk the uncertain. To feel your feelings. To share your feelings. To show up as you are.
And it’s not an easy feeling. But, on the other side is everything we all need - love, connection, belonging, and purpose. And the more you are vulnerable, the more it gives others permission to do the same.
Vulnerability has been at the core of everything I have been doing recently. None of it would have been possible without it.
We all have challenges. We all find some things hard. We all have feelings. And we all need help at times. To be vulnerable is to feel. And to believe that vulnerability is weakness is to believe that feeling is weakness. And as human beings with feelings, where does that leave us?
The last time someone expressed their true feelings to you, what did you feel?
My bet is love.
Lots of love.
Thank you, Brené Brown, for opening my eyes to the importance of vulnerability.
